More than 50 people of all ages visited Interstate Park this past weekend to learn more about reptiles. This opportunity was provided by the Friends of Interstate and Straight Lake State Parks with a hands-on experience provided by the Snake Discovery Zoo. The crowd was first treated with information and questions to establish what actually makes a reptile different from other animals that one might see in the wild. Next, they took a closer look at a few of the reptiles that can be found in Wisconsin. This included a painted turtle, a hog-nosesnake, a milk snake and bull snake. Next, participants were presented with a few reptile species found in other places of the world such as python snakes and a gecko.
The presentation ended with lots of excitement as young and old alike were allowed to hold one of the many snakes discussed during the presentation.
Be sure to check out the Wisconsin DNR website for more information about the reptiles and amphibians (collectively called ‘herps’).
